Our Cows

Jersey Cattle

Jersey cows were developed on the British island of Jersey. The Jersey is a small breed that may be fawn colored or cream, mouse gray, brown, or black with or without white markings. The tail, muzzle, and tongue are usually black. Cows weigh 900 to 1,000 pounds and bulls weigh 1,500. Jerseys mature quickly, calve easily, and are noted for their fertility. Jerseys produce more milk per pound of body weight than any other breed, and their milk is the richest in butterfat.

We currently have one Jersey Cow, "Daisy". and a summer calf named "Lilly".  We also have a young handsome steer, Cosmo. A steer is a young castrated male.

Polled Hereford Cattle

The Hereford is a British breed. The Hereford is well known for its red body and white face. The feet, belly, flanks, crest (top of neck), and switch are white.  Other characteristics of the Hereford is a large frame and a heavier bone structure than many other breeds. The Hereford has a mellow disposition compared with that of the Angus or some Continental breeds.

We currently have one Polled Hereford bull, born spring 2016. We also have several female cows, heifers and calves.

Brown Swiss Cattle

Brown Swiss cattle come from the mountains of Switzerland. They can be tan, dark brown, gray, or almost white, with a black muzzle, tail, and hooves. Cows can weigh 1300 to 1400 pounds, and bulls can weigh up to 2000 pounds. They are known to be docile and friendly, and their milk has the perfect fat to protein ratio for cheese making.

We currently have one Brown Swiss heifer, "Samantha", who won the title "Reserve Junior Champion at the Hunterdon County Open Dairy Show.
